BSc Chemistry is a three-year undergraduate course which one can apply after completing 12th from science stream. BSc Chemistry course deals with different aspects of Chemistry including organic chemistry and inorganic chemistry. 

After completing the course, candidates can apply for any of the BSc Chemistry job profiles that match their criteria. 

After completing graduation from any of the top BSc Chemistry colleges in India, one can get a decent job profile with an average salary package of INR 5-6 Lakhs per annum.

Eligibility for the course says that the interested candidates must have science with subjects as Physics, Chemistry, Maths, or Biology as their main subjects from any recognized board.

Admission is based on both Merit-Based and Entrance Based depending on the institutions that are providing the course. Some of the Universities include Delhi University, Christ University, and Punjab University, and so on. Some of the entrance exams are BHU CET, NPAT, PU CET, and so on.

BSc Chemistry: Quick Facts

  • BSc Chemistry is an undergraduate course of 3 years. 
  • One can apply for BSc Chemistry after completing Schooling from a science stream.
  • BSc Chemistry course is divided into six semesters with semester examinations after every six months. In a few universities, it is also based on the Choice-Based Credit System (CBCS).
  • Candidates must have Chemistry, Physics, and Maths as their main subject in 12th to become eligible for the courses.

BSc Chemistry Admission Process

Admission into BSc Chemistry is based on two ways:

Merit-Based Admission: In this way of admission, institutions generate a merit list for their course, and the merit list is based on the 12th mark scored by the students. Interested candidates need to cross the cut-off marks decided by the institutions. Some of the colleges that provide Admission based on Merit are Hans Raj College, Ramjas College, Hindu College, Mount Carmel College, Fergusson College, and many more throughout India.

Entrance Based Admission: This is the second way of providing admission for BSc Chemistry. Some institutions provide admission based on the Entrance exam taken by them. Institutions like Banaras Hindu University, Christ University, and Punjab University are some of them.

BSc Chemistry Admission Eligibility Criteria in India

Admission to the BSc Chemistry Courses is board done in two ways:

  • Through Entrance Exam conducted by Institutions before providing admission and
  • Other is based on the merit list generated by the institution based on the 12th marks of the candidates. Marks calculated based on the marks scored in the best four subjects of 12th including Chemistry as the main subject.
  • Candidates must have at least 55% marks in aggregate in 12th to become eligible to apply for the course.

BSc Chemistry Distance Education in India

There are some institutions in India who provide BSc Chemistry Distance Education, where students don’t need to travel to college regularly and attend classes regularly. These classes are scheduled once or twice a week.

BSc Chemistry –Distance Education Admission

  • In India, there are institutions like NSOU, IGNOU, Nalanda Open University, Archarya Nagarjuna, and so on that offer BSc Chemistry through distance mode.
  • The average fees structure is between INR 12,000 to INR 25,000 per year for the course.
  • Eligibility of the distance course is the same as for the regular course that candidates should have passed 12th with a minimum of 50% marks in Science stream with Chemistry as a subject studied by them.
  • Admission is based on the marks scored by the students in their 12th grade.

  • Indira Gandhi National Open University provides admission twice a year for all the courses through its official website of IGNOU:
  • IGNOU BSc Chemistry course duration is of 3 years to 6 years after completing 12th from a recognized university.
  • Admission is purely based on merit scored in 12th grade by the candidates.
  • Candidates need to submit all the required documents like 12th certificate, address proof, identity proof, 10th mark sheet, photograph, and other necessary things that are asked.
  • The course fees structure is around INR 12,800 per year for the BSc Chemistry.
