MBBS full form is Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery. The MBBS short form is derived from the Latin phrase Medicinae Baccalaureus Baccalaureus Chirurgiae. Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery can be abbreviated to MBChB, MB ChB, MBBSMD or MBBS. Students usually complete MBBS and MD before becoming a medical practitioner by profession. The full form of MD is Doctor of Medicine. As MBBS long form suggests, Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery is a combination of 2 degrees but it is conferred together. MBBS duration is 5.5 years which has 1 year compulsory internship. MBBS undergraduate medical program pursued by students who wish to be doctors in India is a professional degree required to become a doctor, diagnose diseases, prescribe medicine, and conduct surgery. There are 91,927 seats available for MBBS, out of which 48,012 (52%) are Govt seats and 43,915 (48%) are private.
MBBS Admission takes place through the NEET exam. Students must be above 17 years of age and have studied Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Biology as compulsory subjects in class 12 in order to qualify for the NEET Exam. Colleges start calling students according to their NEET scores. Students need to clear the NEET cut off to take admission to a college.
MBBS Course duration is 5 years of studying 19 medical subjects followed by 6 months of internship. MBBS 1st year subjects include Anatomy, Biochemistry, and Physiology while 2nd-year MBBS subjects consist of 7 subjects.
